Public Hearing On The Proposed Operation Of The Sanitary Landfill In Barangay Concepcion In Compliance With Ra 9003, Hope To Solve 17 Years Of Open Dump Site Environmental Hazards
The City Government of Talisay held a public hearing on the proposed sanitary landfill in compliance with the provisions of Republic Act No. 9003, otherwise known as the “Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000” as mandated by the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, happening today at the Barangay Concepcion Covered Court.
The public hearing is one of the mandatory requirement for the city's implementation of the proposed sanitary landfill which will pave the way to stop the operation, final closure and rehabilitation of the open dump site and improve the lives of the residents also situated in the same barangay.
The sanitary landfill to be established in Hacienda Bantud, Barangay Concepcion, aims to totally eradicate and effect a long term solution to the present negative effects brought about by the open dumpsite that has been in operation and causing problems and health hazards in the site's vicinity for almost 17 years.
In his message, Mayor Neil Lizares III asked for the residents' support for this landmark project. He further emphasized and assured the public of the present administration's commitment and sincerity in bringing growth and positive change in every Talisaynon. With the operation of the sanitary land fill in Barangay Concepcion, this will not only solve the problems arising from the existing open dumpsite but will also be an opportunity for every constituent to generate employment, additional income and development in the area.
Also in attendance in the public hearing were Sangguniang Panlungsod Members Randy Ereñeta, Gab Villacin, Carl Lizares, RJ Tuvilla, Dolendo and Bogs Malan. Also present were City Adminstrator Jonathan Ealdama, Asst. City Administrator Ismael Penado, City Health Officer Dr. Joy Gladys Guanzon, Solid Waste Management Officer Designate Engr. Warren Paduano, Executive Assistant Dr. Frances Mae Llamas and Atty. Julie Bedrio of the City Legal Office. Punong Barangays Ricky Veraye of Barangay Bubog, Banhao, Hinolan, Mahandog, Abaring and Barangay Kagawads Oliver Casiano, Toriano and Parreño were also present in this significant activity.
