Celebrating Migrant Workers Day in Talisay City
On Friday, June 28, Mayor Neil Lizares and the Talisay City OFW Office celebrated Migrant Workers Day. The event, themed "Migranteng Talisaynon, Kamo ang Bida sa Gwapongaserbisyo," honored the important contributions of Talisay's Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). About 300 people, including OFWs and their families from 22 different OFW associations, gathered at the Talisay Public Plaza for the celebration.
Activities and Guests
The day started with an energetic Zumba contest in the morning. In the afternoon, there was a special program with important guests like Venecio V. Legaspi, Assistant Secretary for Reintegration from the Department of Migrant Workers, and other officials from the region.
Community Spirit and Highlights
The event was full of community spirit, friendship, and support. Some highlights included delicious food from Kusina ni Atty Weng, drinks from Vice Mayor Nic Jalandoni, and a comforting dish called "Pa Champorado ni Inday Erlou Penado." There was also a free photo booth thanks to Bebe Estelloso.
OFW organizations proudly displayed their various products, showing the creativity and resilience of Talisay's migrant workers. The event also featured the awarding of financial assistance to displaced Talisaynon OFWs by OWWA, along with exciting raffles and surprises.
Recognizing Hard Work and Dedication
This special day highlighted the crucial role of migrant workers in supporting their families and communities. It was a celebration of their hard work and dedication. A big thank you goes to the Talisay City OFW Office, especially Sally Barrios and her team, for organizing such a wonderful event.
