One hundred and sixty Talisaynons, 80 from Barangay Zone 10, and the remaining 80 from Barangay Zone 16, were chosen as beneficiaries of the Department of Labor and Employment’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers, or TUPAD program, a press release from the city said.

Ma. Victoria Diwata Borines, Sr. LEO/Livelihood focal person, DOLE- Negros Occidental Provincial Office, with Ricky Guzon, provincial administrative head of Abang Lingkod Partylist, were present during the awarding of checks worth P279,280 yesterday.

Barangay Captain Resty Tuvilla received the check for Barangay Zone 10, and kagawads Nestor Pahilanga, Carlito Ponclara, Alfredo Ebalde, and Jesus Nochite for Barangay Zone 16.

Also present at the turnover ceremony were Councilor RJ Tuvilla, Sangguniang Panlungsod vice chairman of the Committee on Social Services, Juvenile Madrona of the City Mayor's Office, and Rowena Nicor of Talisay PESO.

The DOLE-TUPAD program is geared towards poverty reduction, and to reduce the vulnerability to risks of the poor and marginalized workers by providing temporary employment to the disadvantaged and displaced workers’ beneficiaries to augment their income.

With this program, the 160 Talisaynon beneficiaries will be given the opportunity to engage in jobs, get paid for their services, and provide for the needs of their families, the press release added.*
